Double AA Corporation Funds Snacks for 130 Children at ALAS Summer Camp

Double AA Corporation Funds Snacks for Children of Farmworkers at ALAS Summer Camp
Every summer in Half Moon Bay, ALAS (Ayudando Latinos A Soñar) runs a three week camp for the children of farmworker families. Camp costs families nothing. Roughly 130 children attend each day, and every one of them eats breakfast, lunch, and snacks on site. This summer, Double AA Corporation has donated to cover snacks for the children who attend.
Why Double AA Corporation supports this work
Double AA Corporation has distributed fuel across Northern California for over 25 years. Our trucks run through the Coastside, the Bay Area, and the Central Valley. Our DoubleTime gas stations sit in the same towns where farmworker families live and shop.
California produces more agricultural value than any other state, with production topping $60 billion for the first time according to the California Department of Food and Agriculture. None of it moves without the workforce documented in the U.S. Department of Labor's National Agricultural Workers Survey, which puts the average age of a hired crop worker at 39. Most are parents.
Who ALAS is
ALAS began in 2011 as a grassroots effort built around Ballet Folklórico and Mariachi programs for local youth. The organization now runs a food pantry, mental health counseling, immigration support, dedicated farmworker services, and the Equity Express Bus, which carries health resources directly into the fields. Their Coastside Gives profile reports the pantry alone supports over 475 families each month.
The work is recognized beyond the coast. ALAS holds a Candid nonprofit profile under EIN 46-2464722 and appears in the Stanford Impact Labs partner directory through its university research partnerships. Their stated belief is simple: culture is medicine.
Why summer meals matter
Summer removes the school cafeteria from the equation. Federal programs exist to close the gap, including USDA's Summer Food Service Program, now administered by the Food and Nutrition Administration following its June 2026 renaming. USDA's Economic Research Service reports the program served 159 million meals in fiscal year 2024, reaching 2.8 million children a day at peak.
How Bay Area businesses can help fund ALAS
Double AA Corporation is publishing this for one reason. We want other companies to do the same thing.
The capacity exists. Points of Light research on volunteer investment, published in its From Nice to Necessary report, found that more than a third of corporate employees participate in volunteer programs and over 66 percent of Fortune 500 companies offer paid volunteer time. Most of that capacity sits unused at the local level.
Local nonprofits do not need every business to fund a program outright. A team volunteer day. An office order from their wishlist. A recurring monthly gift the size of a software subscription. Sponsorship of a single event. Pick one and do it this month.

Philanthropy is part of how Double AA Corporation operates
Fuel is infrastructure. So are meals, counseling, and summer programs. Both keep a region running, and both depend on someone showing up consistently rather than once.
Our stations serve the same neighborhoods our giving supports. We are not funding a cause at a distance. We are funding neighbors.
